“Chris Stousland Art”

Stousland Bio

Mik Stousland (1920-2002) began his silversmithing circa 1960, after attending a workshop at Cranbrook Academy. He had previously earned degrees from William and Mary (BA), Yale (BArch) and Rice (MArch). For over 2 decades he served as chairman of the Architecture Dept. at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. An architect, sculptor and print maker, his sense of humor and design found perfect expression in his sterling silver pins and pendants.

His first silver piece, “Whooo’s Your Love” was made as a valentine gift for his wife, Betty. Many of his designs genuinely express sentiment of love, cleverly tied to their title.

Mike created Medals of Honor for King Charles (presented on his visit to William and Mary) and for Margrite of Belgium as well as for honorees at Miami University and their Architecture Dept. Many organizations still give his pieces as rewards of recognition.

Mik’s son Chris, a painter and printmaker, began his apprenticeship with his father in the early 1990’s and continues to offer Mik’s designs as well as creating custom pieces and signature “Name” pins and pendants in the Stousland tradition. In 2005, Chris made name pins for the ESPY award presenters, including Oprah, Beyonce, Nicolette Sheridan and Maria Sharapova.
